What is clearing?

If you’ve just received your A-level results, or your Highers if you’re in Scotland, and want to go to university but have no offers, what do you do? Well, that’s when clearing comes in.

Clearing is just one option available to you if;

  • you didn’t receive any offers
  • you didn’t want or accept any offers
  • your exam results weren’t as expected
  • you applied after 30 June

It gives you a chance to see which courses still have places remaining, and gives you the opportunity to apply them.

If university isn’t something you want to do right now, or ever, there are alternatives, such as gap years or employment.

Remember, you can always ask for advice from advisor and teachers at your school, college or careers office.
